The library offers students a comfortable setting for research and study. The collection consists of over 9,400 books, 33,700 slides, and 250 video recordings. The library currently receives 40 journals, with over 4,600 back issues, and has a Special Collection of rare monographs and 165 Artists' Books. Students have access to over 40 databases, including Alexandria (the CVA Library online catalog), Art Index Full Text, Oxford Art Online, Ebsco Academic Search Premier, and ARTstor (image database).
Computers with word-processing and Internet connections make the library an ideal spot for writing papers, doing research, and checking email. Also available are scanners and card readers. Library users may bring in their own laptop computers and use cables available in the library to connect to Internet ports located on both floors of the building.
The library is a participant in Minitex, a program of the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and the University of Minnesota, and utilizes many of their programs and services including interlibrary loan. This program allows CVA students, faculty, and staff to request books, journal articles, and other items, that are not available in the CVA Library, from other libraries in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
