Borrowing from the descriptive language and the exhibition format of natural history museums, Inhabitants in a Parallel Universe is an installation that presents the existence of two living American citizens whose families migrated from faraway lands over the last century. One citizen is a descendant of a family of European immigrants; the other comes from a family of immigrants from Africa.
Both families settled in the Twin Cities, escaping from a moment of crisis in their homelands. Neither wish to hide their families' past and have both agreed on displaying their personal belongings. Their belongings are not labeled or titled. All you can read are descriptions of things you may or may not know. What you see is what you choose to see.
