Founded in 1959, Communication Arts is the premier source of inspiration for graphic designers, art directors, design firms, corporate design departments, advertising agencies, interactive designers, illustrators and photographers—everyone involved in visual communication. Whether in print or online, CA's editorials, feature articles and the annual competitions it sponsors provide new ideas and information, while promoting the highest professional standards for the field. Now in its 50th year, CA continues to showcase the current best—from industry veterans to tomorrow's innovators—in design, advertising, illustration, photography and interactive media.
In addition to managing content and layout of the magazine, Patrick Coyne also writes features and the editor's column. Before joining CA in 1986, Coyne studied design at California College of the Arts, worked for Michael Mabry Design and SBG Partners, and co-founded Patrick Coyne/Stephanie Steyer Design Office. Since then, he has received medals, distinctive merits, and a design leadership award from Society of Illustrators, Society of Typographic Arts, and AIGA, respectively. He is an AIGA member, and an honorary member of STA and University and College Designers Association. Coyne has spoken frequently at art directors and advertising clubs as well as local, national, and international design conferences.
CVA began the Leaders of Design Series in 2005. Past lectures and exhibitions have featured Larsen Design, Michael Vanderbyl, Steven Heller, and Blu Dot Design and Manufacturing. For more information on the Series, contact CVA External Relations: 651.224.3416. www.cva.edu.
