2010 Perspectives in Fine Art Series

Mining the rich collection of the Minnesota Museum of American Art in St. Paul, this exhibition probes the question of what makes the abstract image continue to speak to our imaginations, our experiences, and our emotions.

"Generation Abstraction" investigates the mid-century American impulse to make art out of pure color, line, gesture, material, and surface. Starting with Abstract Expressionism in the 1950s through Minimalist forms in the 1970s, the exhibition will showcase a variety of responses to modernist abstraction with important paintings, sculpture, and works on paper.

Featured Artists
Kinji Akagawa, Herbert Bayer, Joan Brown, Porfirio DiDonna, Enrico Donati, Fritz Glarner,  Eugene Larkin, George Morrison, Louise Nevelson, Kenneth Noland, Alfonso Ossorio, Henry Pearson, Gabor Peterdi, Fanny Sanin, Peter Voulkos, Frederick Wardy
