All applications for admission are evaluated on the basis of portfolio review, statement of interest essay, and records of academic aptitude and performance. Admissions decisions are individualized and take into account all aspects of the applicant's background.
CVA is on rolling admissions. For students who intend to enter CVA in the fall term, we recommend you apply before the March 1 Priority Deadline for Scholarship. The Admissions Office will continue to accept applications after March 1.
For students who intend to enroll in the January-Start semester, we recommend that you apply in the late summer or early fall.
You initiate the admissions process by submitting a completed application form with a $40, nonrefundable application fee. A paper application form can be obtained from CVA’s Admissions Office or you may apply online.
After your application is received, an admissions counselor will contact you about your remaining requirements and to schedule a visit.
As a prospective student, you are required to submit a one- or two-page essay that describes what excites you about art and design, your goals and why attending. CVA will help you achieve them.
All applicants must present proof of high school graduation or its equivalent. A valid academic transcript—official and sealed—must be sent directly to the CVA Admissions Office.
An ACT or SAT score is required for all applicants unless otherwise notified by Admissions. If you are transferring from another college with more than 30 successfully completed college credits at an accredited institution, you are not required to submit test scores.
This is your chance to shine! A portfolio for admission into CVA may include (but is not limited to) drawing, painting, graphic design work, digital work, photography, printmaking, sculpture, websites, video and documentation of installation. You may either submit a variety of media or concentrate on one. Your portfolio should include 12–20 examples of artwork. Note: we offer multiple drawing workshops and portfolio classes throughout the year to assist you in building your portfolio.
Your portfolio can be reviewed on campus or submitted for review through the mail or email. On-campus reviews take place at CVA by making an appointment with the Admissions Office. You may bring original work, photographs or Macintosh-compatible CDs. It is recommended that you use photographs or digital images to represent oversize, three-dimensional or digital work. If you choose to submit your portfolio online, each image must be labeled with title, size and medium.
If you choose to submit your portfolio through the mail we recommend that you do not send original artwork. Items may be damaged while in transit and will not be returned. Please submit your work on Macintosh compatible CDs and include a numbered inventory list that details title, size, media and date of completion.
Contact the Admissions Office if you have any questions about the portfolio submission and review process.
