WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS?
STATEMENT OF INTEREST
This is your opportunity to tell us more about your interests in the visual arts! Write a short essay describing what excites
you about art and design. You can also write about your goals for the future and why attending CVA will help you to achieve these goals.
If applicable, you may address any unusual circumstances that may have affected your academic performance.
One or two pages is the recommended length for a statement of interest.
TRANSCRIPTS
All applicants must present proof of high school graduation or its equivalent. Official, sealed transcripts from the high school and all postsecondary institutions attended
must be sent directly to CVA's Admissions Office. (Please note that transcripts stamped "Issued to Student" are NOT considered official.)
If you did not complete high school, you must submit General Equivalency Diploma (GED) scores in addition to an official high school transcript.
If you have a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university you do not need to furnish a high school transcript.
TEST SCORES
An ACT or SAT score is required for all applicants unless otherwise notified by Admissions. The college's ACT code is 6117 and the SAT code is 6147.
Transfer Students: If you are transferring from another college with more than 30 successfully completed college credits at an accredited institution
you do not have to submit test scores. Although not required, you may include test scores with your application materials to build a more complete record
showing your academic potential.
PORTFOLIO PROCESS
This is your chance to show us what you love to do! A portfolio for admission into CVA may include, but is not limited to, drawing, painting, graphic design work,
digital work, photography, printmaking, sculpture, websites, video, and documentation of installation. You can choose to submit a variety of media or concentrate on just one.
CVA offers multiple drawing workshops and classes throughout the year to assist you in building your portfolio. Your portfolio should include 12 - 20 examples of artwork.
You may also supplement your portfolio with sketchbooks.
Your portfolio can be reviewed on campus or through the mail. On-campus reviews take place at CVA by making an appointment with the Admissions Office.
Applicants may bring original work, photographs, or Macintosh-compatible CDs.
It is recommended that an applicant use photographs or digital images to represent oversize, three-dimensional, or digital work.
Online portfolios are also accepted provided each image is labeled with title, size, and medium.
Applicants mailing in their portfolio should not send original artwork as items may be damaged while in transit and will not be returned.
Applicants should send Macintosh-compatible CDs of their work.
A numbered inventory list, detailing the title of the piece, size, media, and date of completion must be included for CDs.
If you have any questions or concerns about the portfolio process, please feel free to contact the CVA Admissions Office.

WHEN DO I KNOW IF I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED?
When you complete all of the application requirements by the priority deadline
(March 1 for fall or December 1 for spring) you will be notified of your admissions status within two weeks. The Admissions Office will continue to
accept applications after the March 1 deadline based on availability.
Conditional Acceptance: Applicants who do not meet CVA's academic standards but show significant potential in other areas of the application
may be admitted under Conditional Acceptance. Admission under Conditional Acceptance means that a student must maintain a GPA of 2.0 ("C-" average)
during their first semester at CVA. This is an opportunity for the student to show that they can successfully handle CVA's rigorous curriculum.
If the student meets this requirement after their first semester the status is removed.
If the student is unable to fulfill this requirement, the student is academically suspended.
